It is a space where causes are shared, collective actions are organised, and narratives about the local area are constructed. However, this visibility, whilst necessary for social change, also carries risks: excessive exposure, cyberattacks, misinformation and impacts on emotional well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">It was against this backdrop that \u2018Social Media: Yes, but with Care\u2019 was developed \u2013 a course from the NextGenC project aimed at young social leaders in Cartagena, Quibd\u00f3 and Manizales, to strengthen physical, emotional and digital self-care, and provide tools for more mindful and secure communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A course designed with care in mind<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The process was facilitated by Mar\u00eda Andrea Garc\u00eda, an expert in emotional health and psychosocial work, and Karen Naundorf, a journalist specialising in media analysis and disinformation. The methodology was participatory and experiential, using the mobile phone not only as a means of communication but also as an object of critical analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The course was structured around three key stages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Physical and emotional self-care, to recognise signs of stress, fear or discomfort.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visibility, algorithms and digital risks, understanding how platforms work and the implications of exposing oneself on them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital ethics, rights and disinformation, distinguishing between opinion, verified information and communicative responsibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The overarching idea was clear: looking after oneself does not mean withdrawing from the public sphere; it means learning to navigate it more effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/nextgenc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image-1-1024x473.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1021\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nextgenc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image-1-1024x473.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/nextgenc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image-1-300x139.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/nextgenc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image-1-768x355.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/nextgenc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image-1-1536x709.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/nextgenc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image-1-18x8.jpeg 18w, https:\/\/nextgenc.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image-1.jpeg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The body as the primary tool of leadership<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the course\u2019s key focuses was recognising the body as the primary territory of protection. Through movement and body awareness, participants identified how stress, tension or silence can serve as warning signs in situations of harassment, violence or insecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This approach helped participants understand that self-care is not merely an individual decision, but a political practice that underpins leadership in complex contexts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Communication is also an ethical act<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">\u2018Social media, yes, but with care\u2019 provided a key lesson for young leaders: communication entails responsibility. Not only for the information shared, but also for one\u2019s own wellbeing and that of communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Self-care (physical, emotional and digital) is not an add-on to leadership; it is a prerequisite for sustaining it over time.
